ASEC pulled apart a popular robot vacuum line and found the kind of issues that turn a household chore into a surveillance risk. Roughly 10 million of these units are online worldwide, an illustrative figure that tells you the blast radius is not small.

People hear “vacuum” and stop thinking about security. That is the wrong mental model. These devices carry cameras, build detailed floor-plan maps of your home, and pair to a cloud account that ties it all to your identity. The weaknesses we looked at touched all three: the way the device authenticates to the cloud during pairing, how mapping data moves and is stored, and what a nearby attacker can reach on the local network.

Map data alone is a goldmine. It tells someone the layout of your home, where the rooms are, and by inference when you are in them. Add a camera feed and the “just a vacuum” framing collapses completely.
